My name is Matt Belcher, and I am pleased to be joining InterMed in South Portland as a family medicine physician.

I was born and raised in Connecticut, in southern New England, but have deep roots to Maine. Maine is where my mother went to high school, my brother was born and where my family lived up until about two months before I was born (I just missed out on being a native Mainer).

After my education and upbringing in the Northeast, I did my residency in family medicine in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I additionally had a wonderful opportunity to work in Central American for nearly a year, in the midst of my medical training, and the experience impacted me in a powerful way.

Although my wife, Megan, and I loved the outdoor life and skiing of the West, after our training, the call of family brought us back East.

I was drawn to medicine from a young age and have found family medicine to be a comfortable and rewarding fit. I love the chance to connect with patients and their extended families and to partner with them as they travel through life, and hopefully, on a road to better health.

I enjoy the varied challenges and dilemmas that we can encounter on each and every day, and working through them in collaboration with my patients.

Megan and I have now been practicing in Maine for nearly 20 years (Megan is also a family medicine physician). With our two daughters and our two dogs, we have loved our time here and truly found our home. We love the opportunities to ski, bike, jog, or just enjoy the great outdoor spaces that Maine offers.
