My name is Carla Negrete Martínez and I recently found my way to InterMed. I could not be more excited to join the Physical Therapy team as a pelvic health and orthopaedic physical therapist.
I earned my undergraduate degree in dance, while living in Seattle. I became interested in the inner workings of how the body moved in my first kinesiology class during sophomore year. While I danced professionally for eight years, I also began to pursue my career as a physical therapist. I moved across the country to attend Boston University for graduate school. After graduating, I came to Maine and fell in love with the mountains and beaches.
As a physical therapist, I find it most rewarding to witness people make lifestyle changes to address their overall health. I am drawn to my dual specialty because I see the connection between the hip, spine, lower body and the pelvic floor. In treating the pelvic floor, I believe you must address the whole person. This often results in tackling cardiac health and orthopaedic symptoms that were previously assumed to be unrelated. It all allows me to evaluate folks with more body systems in mind and help them improve their quality of life.
While I’m not working, I can be found surfing, hiking and climbing with my fiancée. Otherwise, I am probably snuggling my tuxedo cat, Orwell.
