General Surgery

wired-outline-1249-heart-beatGeneral surgeons diagnose, manage, and perform surgical procedures on a wide range of medical conditions.

They treat conditions affecting the abdomen, including the stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. This can involve surgeries for appendicitis, hernias, gastrointestinal issues like ulcers or tumors, and diseases of the liver and pancreas. Additionally, they often provide trauma care, treating injuries to organs and tissues resulting from accidents or other emergencies.

At InterMed, General Surgery’s scope includes consults, lumps and bumps, and lower-risk procedures in InterMed’s Ambulatory Surgery Center.

What can I expect during my appointment?

During a General Surgery consultation, you'll discuss your medical history and current health concerns with the surgeon. They'll ask about symptoms, conduct a physical examination, and may review any relevant medical records or test results. Depending on your condition, they may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as imaging scans or blood work. The surgeon will then explain their findings and discuss treatment options with you, which could include both surgical and non-surgical approaches. They'll address any questions or concerns you have and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

When should I schedule a General Surgery appointment?

Your primary care physician or provider will initiate care and/or a referral when it is clinically appropriate for you to see the General Surgeon.
